Press Release - Oak Valley Interchange to Receive Signals

On Tuesday, September 5, 2017 the Beaumont City Council approved the purchase of traffic signal poles for the Oak Valley Interchange at Interstate 10. This approval brings the interchange project one step closer to reducing traffic congestion for residents of Beaumont.

Considerable development in the past decade has lead to traffic congestion at the Oak Valley Parkway Interchange. The interchange is currently served by two lanes of traffic over the Interstate 10 freeway with four way stop signs at the East and West bound on and off ramps. The ultimate interchange design will include a partial cloverleaf design with traffic lanes expanded to three lanes in each direction.

As plans move forward, the signals will serve as an interim solution until the complete interchange project is constructed. As part of the design, staff will consider the ultimate design of the interchange and place signal equipment in locations that minimize future relocations during continued construction.

Caltrans District 8 is expected to issue the construction permit to the City of Beaumont later this month with construction expected to begin by December. The City of Beaumont would like to thank Caltrans District 8 for their cooperation and participation in moving this much needed public improvement forward.

The Oak Valley Interchange project interim phase began in the fall of 2016 with the acceptance of $290,000 in State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) grant funds from California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The funds were earmarked for capital improvements at the proposed intersection.
